The Native Village of Akutan applied for a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant to construct an access road to the boat harbor. The proposed two-mile road is the surface transportation element of a regional transportation system serving the Bering Sea Fishery and Akutan, the nation’s second-largest seafood port. The Tribe has also been proactive in engaging the Bureau of Indian Affairs Tribal Transportation Program. Planning funds have been used for designs and permitting.
